Choosing an editor is an important decision, and it’s natural to have questions before submitting your work. Whether you’re writing a dissertation, preparing a journal article, developing a grant proposal, or polishing a business document, understanding the editing process can help you choose the service that’s right for you.
We’ve answered many of the questions we hear most often, but if you don’t see your question below, we invite you to contact us. We’re always happy to discuss your project.
Choosing an Editing Service
How do I know which editing service I need?
The best editing service depends on where you are in the writing process. A document that is nearly ready for submission may need only proofreading, while an earlier draft may benefit from copyediting, line editing, or developmental editing. If you’re unsure which service is appropriate, we’ll review your project and recommend the editing level that best fits your needs and goals.
What is the difference between proofreading and copyediting?
Proofreading is the final review of a completed document and focuses on correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, and minor formatting issues. Copyediting provides a more comprehensive review by improving grammar, consistency, sentence structure, readability, and adherence to the appropriate style guide.
What is line editing?
Line editing focuses on how effectively your writing communicates with the reader. It improves clarity, flow, transitions, tone, and style while preserving your voice.
What is developmental editing?
Developmental editing examines the organization, structure, and overall effectiveness of a document. It provides feedback on logical progression, chapter organization, coherence, and presentation rather than concentrating primarily on sentence-level corrections.
Pricing and Payment
How much does editing cost?
We publish our standard editing rates so clients can make informed decisions before requesting a quote. Pricing is based primarily on the editing level selected and the length of the document. Some specialized projects may require a customized estimate because of their complexity or unique requirements.
Why do dissertations cost more than shorter documents?
Dissertations are among the longest and most complex documents we edit. They often include extensive citations, tables, figures, appendices, and multiple chapters that require sustained editorial attention.
Can I submit one chapter at a time?
Yes. Many graduate students choose to have individual chapters edited as they complete them. This approach allows you to receive feedback throughout the writing process while spreading the cost of editing over time. A final review of the complete manuscript is still recommended before submission to ensure consistency across chapters.
Do you require payment before editing begins?
Payment expectations depend on the type and scope of the project. Standard services may be ordered directly through our website, while larger or more specialized projects may require a customized quote before work begins. Payment details will always be discussed before your project is scheduled.
Turnaround Times
How long will my project take?
Turnaround times depend on the document’s length, complexity, the editing level requested, and our current editing schedule. Estimated turnaround times are provided on our Turnaround Times page, and a more specific estimate will be given when your project is reviewed.
Do you offer rush services?
Yes. Expedited editing may be available depending on our current workload and the size of your project. Rush services are offered on a limited basis to ensure that every project continues to receive the careful attention it deserves. Please contact us before placing an order if you have an urgent deadline.

Editing Process
How will I receive my edited document?
Most editing projects are completed using Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature. This allows you to review every suggested revision, compare the edited version with your original document, and decide which changes to accept. Your document remains your work, and you maintain complete control over every revision.
Will you explain your edits?
Whenever appropriate, editors may include comments to clarify suggestions or explain significant revisions. These comments are intended to help you understand the reasoning behind the edits and strengthen your future writing.
Can I ask questions after I receive my edited document?
Absolutely. We want you to feel confident about the editing process. If you have questions about the revisions or comments you receive, we’re happy to provide clarification.

Academic Integrity and Ethics
Do you write papers or dissertations?
No. We do not provide ghostwriting services or complete academic assignments on behalf of students or researchers. Our role is to improve the clarity, organization, grammar, and readability of documents while preserving the author’s original ideas and maintaining ethical editorial practices.
Can you guarantee that my dissertation or article will be accepted?
No. While professional editing can improve the quality and presentation of your writing, no editor can guarantee committee approval, publication, funding, or acceptance by a journal.
Will you change my ideas or conclusions?
No. Our editors improve how your ideas are communicated, but the content, analysis, arguments, and conclusions remain your responsibility as the author. We preserve your voice while helping you express your ideas more clearly and effectively.
Confidentiality
Will my document remain confidential?
Yes. We understand that many of the documents we edit contain unpublished research, proprietary information, grant proposals, or manuscripts intended for publication. Every project is handled with professionalism and discretion, and we respect your ownership of your intellectual property.
Will you sign a nondisclosure agreement (NDA)?
If your institution, employer, or organization requires an NDA before sharing confidential materials, please let us know before submitting your project. We’ll discuss your requirements and determine whether an agreement is appropriate for the services requested.
Style Guides and Document Types
Which style guides do you edit?
We edit documents prepared in a variety of commonly used style guides, including APA, MLA, Chicago, and other discipline-specific formats. If your project follows a publisher’s house style or another specialized guide, please let us know when requesting a quote.
What types of documents do you edit?
We provide editing services for a wide range of academic, professional, and publishing projects, including dissertations, theses, journal articles, research papers, literature reviews, grant proposals, business reports, policies and procedures, training materials, website content, and nonfiction books.
Still Have Questions?
Every writing project is unique, and no single FAQ can answer every question. If you’d like to discuss your project, learn more about our editing services, or receive guidance on selecting the right editing level, we’d be happy to help.
