Substantive Review

Editing & Proofreading

Substantive Review is for documents that require deeper editorial attention to structure, organization, flow, and overall development. It is appropriate when a document has strong potential but needs more than sentence-level correction in order to function clearly and effectively as a complete piece.

This tier supports writing that may be conceptually strong but uneven in structure, sequence, transitions, or section development. Substantive Review helps strengthen the document by improving coherence across sections, refining how ideas are organized, and supporting clearer movement from one part of the document to the next.

This level of review is often appropriate for complex professional documents, longer manuscripts, academic or research-based writing in development, and materials that need stronger internal organization before they are ready for final refinement.

Substantive Review is best used when a document needs stronger internal development before final polishing. For documents that are already well structured and primarily need correction and consistency, Foundational Review may be the better fit.
