It includes both general learning opportunities and more structured programs that support participation across different age groups and learning contexts.

Learning in this area may take place through individual workshops, short-term trainings, or more sustained learning experiences. Some opportunities are open and exploratory, while others are organized as structured programs with defined expectations and timelines.

This area may be relevant for students, parents, educators, community members, and organizations seeking to engage in learning that connects to education, youth development, community participation, or applied practice.

Workshops and Trainings

Workshops and trainings provide opportunities to explore specific topics, develop skills, and engage in guided learning. These may be designed for different audiences, including community members, parents, educators, tutors, mentors, and organizational staff.

Some workshops are designed as stand-alone learning opportunities, while others may connect to broader areas of work within the Community Engagement Program.

Training Pathways

In addition to individual workshops and short-term learning opportunities, this area includes structured training pathways designed to support mentors, tutors, and others engaged in community-based learning and development. These trainings are self-paced and offered at no cost to participants as part of the Lightstand Project’s community-based work.

Youth Development and Curriculum

Youth development and curriculum-based learning focus on supporting children and students through structured educational experiences. This may include afterschool learning, homeschool support, or other community-based approaches to youth development.

These efforts are designed to support learning, participation, and development in ways that are responsive to community context and aligned with broader educational goals.

Structured Learning Programs

In some cases, learning opportunities in this area are organized as structured programs. These programs provide a more defined learning experience, including expectations, timelines, and guided participation.

Structured programs are organized through the Community Engagement Program, where participants can explore current offerings such as the Community-Engaged Scholars Program and future training pathways as they are developed over time.

Workshops, trainings, and youth development work often connect to other areas of the Community Engagement Program, including tutor and mentor preparation, parent and family engagement, nonprofit collaboration, and program evaluation and reporting. These connections allow learning to take place within broader community-based efforts.
