The Community Engagement Program is grounded in scholarship-informed, participant-centered learning, drawing on research, theory, and lived experience to support meaningful reflection and growth. CEP learning experiences are intentionally facilitator-led. They are thoughtfully designed and academically grounded, while centering participants as active contributors to knowledge-making. Rather than transmitting content or prescribing best practices, CEP creates structured spaces for dialogue, inquiry, and shared sense-making.
This pedagogical approach is informed by scholarship in curriculum studies, social justice teacher education, and community-engaged learning, as well as by research on educator learning and relational practice. The approach recognizes that participants bring expertise shaped by context and experience, and that learning deepens through conversation, questioning, and critical reflection. CEP supports participants in making sense of their work, strengthening practice, and developing approaches that are responsive to the communities and systems they serve.
