Resources

Communities are full of programs, people, and organizations supporting children and families. Finding them, however, is often harder than it should be.

This hub brings together trusted, state-specific afterschool, tutoring, homeschooling, community learning resources, and nonprofit community resources. The goal is to help families, churches, educators, tutors, and community organizations understand what already exists and where to begin locally.

Some resources shared here are created by the Lightstand Project, particularly through the Community Engagement Program. Others are external resources, curated to support community awareness and connection. Each is clearly identified so you know what is original and what is shared.

How to Use This Hub

You can explore resources in a few different ways:

  • By region and state, to find local programs, networks, and public agencies
  • By topic, such as afterschool programs, homeschooling, or tutor and mentor training
  • By role, whether you are a parent, church leader, educator, tutor, or community organizer

Not every resource listed here is operated by the Lightstand Project. Inclusion does not mean endorsement. It means the resource may be helpful as you explore options and next steps in your community.

For Churches and Faith-Based Organizations

Many churches support children and families through afterschool programs, tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment activities. Explore Resources includes faith-based programs and tools that churches can learn from, partner with, or adapt based on local capacity and context.

For Families and Caregivers

If you are looking for learning opportunities outside of the school day, Explore Resources can help you see what is available near you and how different programs are structured.

For Community Organizations and Educators

This section supports collaboration by helping organizations see the broader ecosystem, reduce duplication, and connect families to services more easily.

Browse by Region

Explore Resources is organized by U.S. regions, with state-level pages added over time.

California is the first pilot state. Additional states and resources may be added gradually.
