Community-Engaged Training Programs

What These Programs Are

Our community-engaged training programs are structured learning experiences rooted in real community contexts. They bring together learning, practice, and reflection through sustained engagement with people, organizations, and local communities.

Our training programs, which are more in-depth than a single workshop, unfold over time. Participants engage around shared questions, guided learning activities, and applied community work connected to real settings rather than simulated exercises.

These trainings are part of the Community Engagement Program.

What “Community-Engaged” Means Here

In the Lightstand Project context, community-engaged means:

  • Learning takes place in relationship with real communities
  • Knowledge develops through practice, dialogue, and reflection
  • Community members, practitioners, and learners contribute to the learning process
  • Work is grounded in place, context, and lived experience

Our training programs emphasize learning with communities rather than learning about them.

How These Programs Are Structured

Our community-engaged training programs typically include:

  • A defined program structure and timeframe
  • Guided learning activities and shared materials
  • Community-based or community-connected work
  • Reflection and facilitated discussion

Our training programs are educational in nature; however, they do not function as degree programs, credentialing systems, or research oversight bodies.

Who Participates

Our training programs may involve:

  • Students and emerging practitioners
  • Educators and facilitators
  • Community-based learners
  • Nonprofits, churches, schools, and other community organizations

Individuals and organizations may participate independently or alongside one another, depending on the program’s structure and focus.
